Back to School Party

Tuesday, September 2, 2014

With summer almost over and the air turning cool, it's obvious that's it's time to go back to school!  Every fall, memories of back to school shopping along with afternoon snacks take me back to those crisp fall days. What better way to bring the nostalgia back than by throwing a Back To School Bash for your friends or a Back to School Party for your school aged children.  These simple ideas and fun Wheel & Basket finds will get any child excited for the start of a new school year!

TABLE DECOR:
Brown Kraft Paper makes for an easy and festive tablecloth.  Simply roll it out and cut to size.  Use vintage books and office decor, like this dictionary and this vintage stamp holder for a creative centerpiece.  And there's nothing that says back to school like a good chalkboard!  These Chalkboard Placemats are one of the newest additions to Wheel & Basket and make the perfect statement piece to this place setting.  Write guests' names in chalk for a fun place setting card and provide guests with their own chalk for their own drawing pleasure!  Have guests doodle or write their favorite school memory on their chalkboard then snap a picture for an instant party pic!  These chalkboard placemats will quickly become a fall favorite, not just for the kid's table!
A is for APPLE!  At each place setting include an apple, a yellow pencil and a brown paper lunch bag (held closed with a paperclip).  Wooden utensils and these Cloth "Notebook Paper" Napkins pull the entire back to school look together!
What?!  Those napkins are cloth?!
Yes, I know they're quite amazing and the thing I'm currently most obsessed with!  Another addition to Wheel & Basket's Back to School Collection, designed and handmade by my very creative mom!
ON THE MENU:
Brown Paper bags not only act as table decor but provide your guests with a lunch filled with back to school goodies.  For a nostalgic, low cost option, serve a peanut butter & jelly sandwich wrapped in parchment paper along with a juice box!
FOR DESSERT:
Create a simple but oh so delightful Milk & Cookie Station
BACK TO SCHOOL BANNER:
To create this easy diy, use brown paper lunch bags and chalk to spell out Back to School.  Attach each bag with a paperclip to string or twine.
FAVORS FOR GUESTS:
Have each child or guest sign and/or decorate their Cloth "Notebook Paper" Napkin using fabric pens.  This makes for the perfect craft & favor in one!
If you're wanting to recreate this party, Wheel & Basket is currently selling a Back To School Party Set that includes 4 chalkboard placemats and 4 cloth "notebook paper" napkins.  Quantities are limited and will only be offered for a short amount of time, so be sure to order yours soon!

And for you moms & dads out there, this napkin is also offered in a set of 4, or as singles, making the perfect addition to your child's lunch bag.  It's reusable and made to look like a lined piece of paper.  Should you choose, you can customize them yourself using a fabric pen ~ what better than a note from mom in your lunch bag?
An afternoon snack is what I looked forward to at the end of each school day.  This set would score major extra credit points when greeting your children after a long day of learning!
What back to school memories or traditions do you have in your home?
Would love for you to share in the comments below!

  1. Michelle, what terrific ideas for a back to school party. I love the blackboard/placemats and napkins from Wheel and Basket. I'm a Grandma, but I think my Grandma friends would like this party for a coffee hour some morning. CJW
